Memaloose Hills — Four Weeks in the Meadows
This Spring 2011 series of "time-lapse" panoramas of the Memaloose Hills offers a unique perspective on the wildflower bloom in both space and time. At each location, I shot a panorama during the early bloom and again during the peak four weeks later. Each panorama combines the early and peak bloom pairs so that you can switch between them to see the dramatic seasonal transformation of the meadow. (These may load slowly.)

The Ortley Pinnacles, also known as Devil's Hole, is an area of numerous rock fins and pinnacles just west of Doug's Beach. These vertically standing rock formations were originally horizontal basalt flows that were deformed and tilted within a 300 ft. wide zone of thrust faulting that shifted rocks on the east up and over those on the west side of the fault. Higher up the faulting decreases and transitions into folding of the Ortley anticline.

This is a June 2009 zoomed panorama of the Windy Flats/Windy Ridge wind power projects under construction on the Columbia Hills above Goldendale, Washington. Visible through the gap of Davies Pass are the Klondike and Biglow wind power projects on the Oregon side of the Columbia River. I shot this panorama from the summit of Grayback Mtn., which is 23 miles from the closest wind turbines.
The hotspot link to this pano in the Grayback Mtn. Summit view will give you an idea of the broader geographic setting of the western part of the wind projects. The hotspot is on the SE horizon and will highlight when your cursor is over the area.
